White Fang is a novel by American author Jack London (1876–1916) — and the name of the book's eponymous character, a wild wolfdog. First serialized in Outing magazine, it was published in 1906. The story takes place in Yukon Territory and the Northwest Territories, Canada, during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush and details White Fang's journey to domestication. It is a companion novel (and a thematic mirror) to London's best-known work, The Call of the Wild, which is about a kidnapped, domesticated dog embracing his wild ancestry to survive and thrive in the wild.
Much of White Fang is written from the viewpoint of the titular canine character, enabling London to explore how animals view their world and how they view humans. White Fang examines the violent world of wild animals and the equally violent world of humans. The book also explores complex themes including morality and redemption.

Two men are out in the wild of the north. Their dogs disappear as they are lured by a she-wolf and eaten by the pack. They only have three bullets left and Bill, one of the men, uses them to try to save one of their dogs; he misses and is eaten with the dog. Only Henry and two dogs are left; he makes a fire, trying to drive away the wolves. They draw in close, and he is almost eaten, saved only by a company of men who were traveling nearby.

The wolves are in the midst of a famine. They continue on, lead by several wolves alongside the she-wolf, and when they finally find food the pack starts to split up. The she-wolf mates with one of the wolves and has a litter of pups. Only one survives after several more famines, and he grows strong and is a feisty pup.
They come to an Indian village where the she-wolf's (who is actually half-wolf, half-dog) master is. He catches her again and White Fang, her pup, stays nearby. Soon, she is sold to another Indian, while White Fang stays with Gray Beaver, her master. The other dogs of the village terrorize White Fang, especially one named Lip-lip.

White Fang becomes more and more vicious, encouraged by his master. He kills other dogs. Gray Beaver goes to Fort Yukon to trade and discovers whiskey. White Fang is passed into the hands of Beauty Smith, a monster of a man. He fights other dogs until he meets his match in a bulldog and is saved only by a man named Scott.

White Fangillustrated edition by Jack London Children eBooks Reviews

Very disappointed and will be returning. The layout is just awful. Crowded text, no indentation, and not even any age numbers?!! I purchased this printing as it was advertised as "illustrated", and felt my son would enjoy having some pictures while reading this excellent story (a favorite from my own youth). There are approximately eight illustrations in the book, and they all appear to be of very poor quality - almost look like photocopies. I don't know who typeset this edition or why they made the offputting choices they did, but I highly recommend purchasing a standard regular publishing house edition instead.
I know it's a classic and it is a great story filled with amazing imagery. For that, I like it quite a bit.

But, to this reader, 3 sentences in every paragraph could be cut and the book could still hold together. Especially when Jack is talking about meat. We get it Jack! Animals eat meat and aren't all ceremonial about it!

Anyways... fairly entertaining book with some of the dryness you'd expect with the age. The first part of the book is a great hook and it all flows perfectly. Great adventure.
Got this for my 12 year old daughter to read, and she loves it. I read it in middle school and loved it, so I'm happy she's enjoying it. This is definitely a classic, great story, but readers will do well to remember that is was written in a time before the PC Police existed. I've used it as an opportunity to teach my daughter a lesson in right, wrong, and popular opinion.
As I said, I was deeply into Les Miserables, both the version and the Audible version, but the author goes off into several long five hour philosophy tangents and I needed a break from one of these. There was none finer than “White Fang.” Yes, I have read several of Jack London’s wonderful books before, and each reading has been wonderful. Having the Audible to go with the version made this current experience all the more terrific. I highly recommend combining the two mediums together for greater entertainment and increased comprehension.
I have loved these stories since childhood, and I was very excited to revisit them as audiobooks now that I'm an adult with a long commute. The stories were just as fantastic as I remember! The narration was also excellent. I enjoyed the narrator's style because it allowed me to be immersed into the story. Overall, I highliy recommend this audiobook to anyone. It's a 2-for1 deal with great narration and fantastic stories!

I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left my review.
If you are expecting this version to be illustrated (as it states clearly in the item name) DO NOT BUY! There is not a single illustration in the entire 202 pages of the book. I was planning on using this book as a read aloud with illustrations to share with my class and am so disappointed that there are no illustrations, which was the only reason I chose to purchase this book. I have requested a refund.
Part dog and part wolf, White Fang is, along with his mother Kiche, the sole survivor of his pack. When he and Kiche are taken in by an Indian tribe, White Fang begins a journey from Wild to Domesticated that is long, arduous, and painful.
White Fang by Jack London is a companion to London’s Call of the Wild, told mostly from the animal’s point of view. This reissue of a London classic has some editorial revisions, according to the publishers, but retains the author’s voice and ability to portray the untamed frontier of his day. For a reader who wants to be introduced, or as in my case, reintroduced, to a classical American literary figure, this book is an excellent jumping off point. The characters, though animal, are portrayed in terms that humans can understand, but without ‘humanizing’ them.
This book shows why Jack London was one of the most regarded authors of his time. I received a free copy of this book, and without hesitation, give it five stars.
